    Classification of water pump impellers:

    　　Centrifugal pump impellers mainly have the following 4 forms: (a) closed; (b) front semi-open; (c) rear semi-open; (d) open.

    　　1. Closed impeller

    　　Composed of blades and front and back plates. The closed impeller has relatively high efficiency, considerable manufacturing difficulty, and is the most used in centrifugal pumps. Suitable for transporting clean water, solutions, and other clean liquids with low viscosity and no particles, such as single-stage horizontal centrifugal pump with IS type suction.

     

    　　2. Semi-open impeller

    　　There are generally two structures: one is front semi-open, composed of the back plate and blades, with relatively low efficiency; to improve efficiency, an adjustable sealing ring is required; the other is rear semi-open, composed of the front plate and blades, which can use the same sealing ring as the closed impeller, with efficiency similar to the closed impeller, and besides transporting liquid, the blades have a sealing function (such as rear blades or auxiliary impellers). The semi-open impeller is suitable for transporting liquids with solid particles, fibers, and other suspensions. The manufacturing of the semi-open impeller is less difficult, lower cost, and highly adaptable, and its use is gradually increasing in centrifugal pumps for refining and chemical, chemical and refining and it is also used to transport clean water and nearly clean liquids.

     

    　　3. Open impeller

    　　Impeller that only has blades and blade reinforcements, without front or back plates (the number of blades in the open impeller is fewer, from 2 to 5 pieces). The impeller efficiency is low, its use is limited, mainly for transporting high viscosity liquids and pulp-like liquids, being common in wastewater pump impellers.

    　　The blades of centrifugal pump impellers are generally of the backward-curved type. The blades can be cylindrical or twisted; using twisted blades can reduce the load on the blades and improve the suction performance of the centrifugal pump, increasing cavitation resistance, although manufacturing is more difficult and costly.

    　　Centrifugal pumps for refining and chemical require fully cast or welded integral impellers. Welded impellers have been developed and are mainly used in special chemical centrifugal pumps made with metallic materials with poor casting properties (such as iron and its alloys). The geometric accuracy and surface finish of welded impellers are better than cast ones, which helps improve the efficiency of the centrifugal pump.

After determining the pump model and configuration, we can then place an order with the workshop for production.
