    Structural characteristics and technical requirements of the gland packing:

     

    　　The gland packing is mainly used to tighten the packing, ensuring the sealing between the packing and the valve stem, and also to support the stem. From a structural point of view, the gland packing is a sleeve with a rhomboidal flange at one end, belonging to the category of sleeve-type parts, so it has the general characteristics of these parts. The main surface of the gland packing requires coaxiality in the internal and external cylindrical surfaces. The end of the gland packing is generally manufactured with an internal conical surface of approximately 150°.

    　　Depending on the different use of the valve, such as stainless steel ball valves, WCB hard-seal ball valves, cast iron ball valves with soft seal, the packing material can be carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, or non-ferrous metals. The raw parts are mainly castings and forgings. In large and medium batch production, the steel gland packing can be manufactured by precision casting, in which case, except for the internal and external cylindrical surfaces and the internal conical surface, no machining is required on other parts.

    The main technical requirements of the gland packing are as follows:

     

    　　1. The dimensional accuracy of the internal hole is level H11, the dimensional accuracy of the external cylindrical surface is level d11, and the surface roughness is Ra6.3～3.2um.

    　　2. High coaxiality is required between the internal hole and the external cylindrical surface.

    Machining process of the gland packing:

     

    　　The internal hole and the external surface of the gland packing are machined by turning. To ensure the coaxiality requirement, the internal hole, external surface, and end face must be machined in a single setup. Because the installation error affecting machining accuracy is eliminated, this method can achieve high relative position accuracy.

    　　To ensure the accuracy of the relative position, the internal hole and external surface of the gland packing must be turned in a single setup. However, one end of the gland packing has a rhomboidal flange, which cannot be clamped in a three-jaw chuck. If a four-jaw chuck is used, alignment is necessary, which reduces efficiency. Normally, a two-jaw self-centering chuck is used to clamp the gland packing. This type of clamping is convenient, ensures machining quality, and has good versatility. When machining a gland packing of another size, only the V-jaws need to be changed.

    　　When machining cast iron gland packings, multi-edge tools can be used. This flat composite drill is made of high-speed steel and can machine the internal hole and the conical surface of the workpiece end on an ordinary lathe, with high efficiency.

    Usually, if you want to get an accurate quote, it is recommended that you provide us with the following information: pump flow rate, head, on-site operating voltage, frequency, temperature of the conveyed liquid, pH value, solid particle content, on-site installation conditions (horizontal or vertical installation), and other related details.     There are many models and configurations of centrifugal pumps. Except for a small number of commonly used standard models that are in stock, the vast majority of models and configurations are not stocked and are customized products. We need to first select the pump based on your site conditions such as flow rate, head, medium temperature, pH value, and installation conditions. After determining the pump model and configuration, we can then place an order with the workshop for production.
