The guide vanes are one of the most important cast and forged parts in the water driving mechanism of hydraulic generating units, and their manufacturing has always been a major challenge in the production of large hydraulic units. Traditionally, guide vanes were produced by sand mold casting, but the internal quality of the cast parts was unstable, being prone to common casting defects such as shrinkage, porosity, inclusions, and cracks.
Processing methods of stainless steel guide vanes:
The common processing methods are three: sand mold casting, electric slag remelting casting, and forging of guide vanes.
Compared with conventional sand mold casting and forging, electric slag remelting casting solidifies through sequential crystallization, eliminating the inherent defects of common casting solidification, especially for components with strict ultrasonic inspection requirements, achieving high overall performance. Additionally, due to the dual action of electric slag refining and electromagnetic force, the base structure of the produced components is uniform, with a dispersed distribution of inclusions, providing good cavitation and wear resistance properties. Thanks to the electric slag refining action, the overall impact and fatigue performance of the produced components is also improved.
