Operating principle of the balance disc
The operating principle of the balance disc is that the pressurized liquid exiting the last stage, after passing through the radial clearance adjustment of the sleeve, flows into the cavity in front of the balance disc, which is in a high-pressure state. Behind the balance disc, there is a balance tube connected to the pump inlet, whose pressure is approximately equal to the inlet pressure. In this way, the pressures on both sides of the balance disc are not equal, generating a backward axial force, that is, the balancing force. This balancing force opposes the axial force, automatically balancing the axial force of the impeller.
Precautions when using the balance disc
When using the balance disc, the axial force can cause the pump shaft to shift toward the axial suction side, causing contact and wear between the balance disc and the balance seat. To reduce wear, the number of pump starts and stops should be minimized. To increase the wear resistance of the balance disc and seat, material selection and heat treatment are strictly controlled to ensure the working surface has sufficient hardness. The return tube connected to the right side of the balance disc must never be blocked, because if blocked, there will be no pressure difference on both sides of the disc and it will lose its function of balancing the axial force. During daily maintenance, attention should be paid to unblocking the return tube of the balance disc and checking the wear of the disc and lower seat; if the wear is severe, it should be replaced in time.
