A deep‑mining project at a certain manganese mine has procured an MD155‑67x7P explosion‑proof, self‑balancing multistage pump for mining applications.

To ensure the safety of drainage operations and the continuity of production in deep‑mining operations, this manganese mine has launched a technical upgrade project for its underground central pump room. After conducting open bidding, technical evaluations, and on-site factory inspections, the mine ultimately partnered with Changsha Zoomlion Pump Industry Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of multistage pumps that holds mining safety certification. The company signed a contract to procure MD155-67x7P explosion‑proof, self‑balancing, horizontal multistage centrifugal pumps for use as the core equipment in its deep‑drainage system.

    Project Introduction

The northern Guizhou Plateau is a major concentration area for manganese ore resources in China. Due to the depletion of shallow ore bodies at a large manganese mine in Zunyi City, mining operations have gradually been extended to depths exceeding 300 meters. As mining depth increases, the mine faces two practical challenges: first, the bedrock fractures underground are well developed, with normal water inflow at 971 m³/d and a maximum inflow of 1281 m³/d; the water quality contains fine mineral sand and is slightly acidic. Second, deep‑lying associated gases such as methane—highly flammable and explosive—are present, requiring that drainage equipment meet stringent explosion‑proof safety standards.

Product Adaptation Conditions: Tailored to Meet Actual Mine Requirements

    1. Match flow rate and head to drainage requirements.

In conjunction with mine hydrogeological data, MD155-67x7P type Self-balancing multistage pump for mining applications The design flow rate is 155 m³/h, and a seven-stage impeller series achieves a total head of 470 meters, capable of meeting the drainage requirements from a mining depth of 300 meters down to the surface. It is suitable for both normal and extreme inflow conditions in the mine, preventing delayed drainage due to fluctuations in water volume.

    2. The structure and explosion-proof design comply with safety requirements.

This pump features a self‑balancing design that cancels axial forces through symmetrically arranged impellers, eliminating the need for a conventional balance disc mechanism. This reduces equipment failures caused by balance disc wear and jamming, making it well suited to meet the 24‑hour continuous operation requirements of mining operations. In addition, the pump unit is equipped with a “P”‑class explosion‑proof motor and an explosion‑proof wiring device, compliant with the GB3836.1‑2021 series of standards for “Explosive Atmospheres,” thereby satisfying the electrical safety requirements of high‑gas mines.

    3. Suitable for acidic, sandy water.

In light of the weakly acidic nature of mine water and its high sand content, the pump’s wetted components are made from high-chromium wear‑resistant cast iron, enhancing their resistance to abrasion and corrosion. This enables the pump to handle water containing sand while reducing maintenance frequency caused by component wear.

During project implementation, the technical team at Zoomlion Pump Industry in Changsha conducted on-site surveys based on the geological exploration reports and operational data of the existing drainage system provided by the mine. In light of the actual conditions—such as the layout of underground pump rooms and pipeline routing—they optimized equipment installation details and pipeline matching solutions. At the same time, they provided comprehensive technical documentation and detailed explanations regarding key issues of concern to the mine, such as equipment explosion-proof certification and material compatibility, thereby ensuring the feasibility of the proposed solution.

This collaboration marks the practical application of the MD series explosion‑proof, self‑balancing pumps for mining use from Changsha Zoomlion Pump Industry in the Zunyi Manganese Mine. The product parameters and structural design are perfectly aligned with the mine’s drainage requirements and safety standards for deep‑level mining operations. Following the delivery and installation of the equipment, it will provide stable drainage support for deep‑level mining, while also offering a valuable reference for manganese ore enterprises facing similar operating conditions when selecting equipment.
